This comment appeared on Mark Squire's Bulletin Board
recently and it spelled to the letter what we have been preaching for the
last six months. Our advise, to any collector/consumer with disposable
income, is to seriously look at the following wines to purchase over the
next few weeks because these are the ones that will be much harder to
find at good prices.
Robert Parker, April 14th 2006..."Prices will be very high for the 2005
firsts($5,000+ in USA dollars,Petrus and Ausone probably pushing
$7500-10,000 by year end)...and smart money will go back and re-
examine 2003,2000,1996,1995,and 1990"

CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 1998
|
Stock: 6002
With 2005s coming out at high prices, collectors should be focusing on great wines from previous vintages that are truly fantastic deals in today's market. Mouton 1998 is certainly one of them. It is one of the greatest wines ever produced by this famous chateaux and it is priced 50% less than 2000 and probably 50% less than the 2005. Stock up on this now!
"Like many of its peers, the 1998 has filled out spectacularly. Now in the bottle, this opaque black/purple-colored offering has increased in stature, richness, and size. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc (57% of the production was utilized), it is an extremely powerful, super-concentrated wine offering notes of roasted espresso, creme de cassis, smoke, new saddle leather, graphite, and licorice. It is massive, with awesome concentration, mouth-searing tannin levels, and a saturated flavor profile that grips the mouth with considerable intensity. This is a 50-year Mouton, but patience will be required as it will not be close to drinkability for at least a decade. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050."96 points R. Parker
