"The 2001 Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni, the selection but 50,000 bottles worth, is warmer, ampler, and decisively more powerful on the nose, richer and fuller in flavor than the regular bottling, but with a velvet in the texture that makes it already approachable. There are, nonetheless, easily 15 years of exceptional drinking ahead." 95 points The Wine Advocate

Our Price
$329.00

"It is no secret that I adore Chapoutier's luxury cuvee of white Hermitage called Cuvee L'Oree. Made from 90-year old vines and microscopic yields of 10-12 hectoliters per hectare, this wine flirts with perfection. It is a compelling white Hermitage. Made from 100% Marsanne, it is as rich and multidimensional as the fullest, most massive Montrachet money can buy. It is unctuously textured, yet extraordinarily and beautifully balanced. I suspect it will drink well early in life, and then shut down for a few years. It should last for 4-5 decades. The 1996 possesses some of the most amazing glycerin levels I have ever seen in a dry white wine. In short, this wine must be tasted to be believed." 99 points Robert Parker

There is no better white, in the "legendary" category, that you can buy for this kind of money. Truly amazing stuff!

"The awesome 1999 Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree flirts with perfection. It is full-bodied, with an incredible bouquet of liquid minerals, licorice, honeysuckle, citrus, and a hint of tropical fruits. One-hundred percent new oak aging has been completely absorbed by the wine's fruit and glycerin. This is a winemaking tour de force, made from exceedingly low yields of 12-15 hectoliters per hectare (less than one ton of fruit per acre). However, readers should understand that these are often unusual wines to drink because they tend to show exceptionally well for 4-5 years after bottling, then close up until about age 12. They can last for 4-5 decades. Anticipated maturity: now-2006; 2012-2050. Along with Gerard and Jean-Louis Chave, Chapoutier is producing the finest expressions of white Hermitage. His single vineyard cuvees are to die for if you like these eccentric, idiosyncratic, mammoth dry whites." 99 points Robert Parker

"Floral notes intermixed with raspberries, black currants, minerals, and a hint of new oak emerge from the dense purple-colored 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou. The wine is sweet, dense, and medium to full-bodied, with undeniable elegance and finesse as well as a finish that lasts for 45+ seconds. A wine of remarkable symmetry, balance, elegance, and minerality, it is the Lafite-Rothschild of St.-Julien,. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030+." 94 points Robert Parker

"Fantastic aromas of blackberries, wild berries and minerals. Extremely aromatic. Full-bodied and very tight, with big, silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Superb. A muscular Ducru. Best after 2010. 17,500 cases made. –JS" 95 points Wine Spectator

This is one of those 1982s that is a joy to savor at the moment. In magnums, it's a beauty!

"This is an elegant 1982, with blueberry, raspberry, mineral, and spicy oak aromas in the moderately intense, polite bouquet. The color is a healthy dark ruby with no lightening or amber. The wine exhibits firmness in the mouth as well as good flesh, a sweet, ripe entry, medium body, and impressive elegance and length. Not a blockbuster such as Gruaud-Larose, Leoville-Las-Cases, Leoville-Barton, and Leoville-Poyferre, this youthful, vibrant 1982 is a model of symmetry and finesse. Anticipated maturity: now-2015." 90 points Robert Parker

"A saturated purple color offers up notes of graphite, plum, raspberry, and blueberry fruit in that distinctive Branaire style. Always a singular wine, even for St.-Julien, the wine boasts superb purity, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors, with loads of sweetness, some subtle toasty oak, and strength and richness that builds incrementally on the palate. A top-flight Branaire, this is the finest wine made at this property since the 1996 and 1982. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025."93 points R. Parker

CHATEAU CALON SEGUR 1982 - CLICK TO VIEW Stock# 54577

Our Price
$245.00

This fantastic Calon has finally come out of its shell and it is getting better with each tasting. Incredibly delicious stuff and one of the best 1982s.

"This wine has just begun to reveal its true personality, having under-performed for most of its life. In half-bottles it is close to maturity, but in 750ml bottles, it still needs another 4-5 years of cellaring (at least those that were purchased in pristine condition and stored properly). The color is a medium dark ruby with a garnet center. The multidimensional nose offers up notes of dried herbs, sweet damp earth, espresso, black cherries, prunes, cedar, iodine, and iron. Extremely complex aromatically, this full-bodied, still tannic, concentrated, old style Bordeaux has two to three decades of life remaining. It is impressive, but clearly from the old-school of Bordeaux winemaking with rustic tannin, but huge depth and body. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2035" 94 points R. Parker

"This is a triumphant 2000, flamboyant, super-concentrated, yet classic in proportions. Lavish notes of roasted espresso, melted chocolate, creme de cassis, toasty new oak, and Asian spices jump from the glass of this sensationally perfumed, rather ostentatious 2000. It is enormously concentrated and pure, with low acidity and exquisite balance. Remarkably, in spite of its large size, viscosity, and opulence, it is fresh and delineated. Potentially the finest Canon-la-Gaffeliere made to date, this impeccably made wine will drink well between 2006-2022." 95 points Robert Parker

CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC 1982 DOUBLE MAGNUM - CLICK TO VIEW Stock# 9082

Our Price
$8,900.00

In Stock

A gorgeous looking and rare Double Magnum of this legendary wine.

"Revealing considerable amber in its dark plum/garnet color, this intensely fragrant 1982 is somewhat of a paradox in that the front end suggests full maturity, but the mid-palate, finish, and overall texture denote a closed wine. A gorgeously sweet entry displays flavors of caramel, roasted coffee, jammy red and black fruits, coconut, and smoke. It is fat and full-bodied, with considerable tannin, structure, and muscle in the finish. Flamboyantly rich and precocious early in life, it is going through an awkward stage where the tannin is present, but it is also sexy, juicy, and formidably-structured. When the 1982 Cheval Blanc's component parts become totally in sync, it will be capable of meriting a three-digit rating." 99 points R. Parker

CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC 1983 - CLICK TO VIEW Stock# 1976

Our Price

The last time we've tasted this wine was about a year ago and it was absolutely stupendous. Lately, the buzz on Robert Parker's bulletin board is that the 1983 has surpassed, or at the very least equaled, the 1982. Frankly, we've always though that it was a close call, but we firmly believe that the 1983 is today a superior wine. Having said that, we've put an inquiry to see if the chateau had any sitting in their cellars and, lo and behold, they've blessed us with seven beautiful cases. Opportunities to grab pristine, ex-chateau stock of such magnificent wine, do not arise very often and, when considering that vintages like 1982, 2000 and 2005 are considerably more expensive, this is extremely attractive

"A classic example of Cheval Blanc's style, the 1983 continues to put on weight and develop favorably in the bottle. A saturated dark ruby color with some faint lightening at the edges exhibits less age than most right bank 1983s. The huge nose of mint, jammy black fruits, chocolate, and coffee is sensational, as well as surprisingly well-developed. The wine offers lusty, rich, unctuous fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, low acid, concentrated, rather hedonistic style. There are no hard edges to be found, but there is plenty of tannin in the lush finish. Gorgeous for drinking now, this is a great Cheval Blanc that should continue to drink well, and possibly improve for another 20 years. The 1983 is far superior to anything Cheval Blanc has subsequently produced. It remains somewhat undervalued for its quality." 95 points R. Parker

This amazing wine will most certainly turn out as great as the 1982 and 1990. You can bet on it!

"I seriously underestimated this wine, as I have often tended to do with Cheval Blanc. A potentially immortal example that has gained significant weight since it has been bottled, this blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot has a saturated purple color and a glorious nose of Menthol, plums, mulberries, new saddle leather, cocoa, and vanilla. Remarkably fuller bodied than I ever remember it young, with an amazingly seamless texture and tremendous concentration and extract, this full bodied yet gorgeously pure and elegant wine is impeccably balanced and certainly one of the all-time great Cheval Blancs. If it continues to improve as much as it has over the last three years since bottling, this wine will certainly rival the 2000, 1990 and 1982." 96+ points R. Parker

< "One of the few top Medocs that seems to be close to full maturity, the 1982 Ducru Beaucaillou shows a dense, almost inky, plum/garnet color, a strinking nose of minerals intermixed with cedar, blackcurrant, autumnal leaves, and spice box. The wine is chewy and opulent, particularly for a Ducru-Beaucaillou, with a lot of flesh and concentration. The tannins are still there but are sweet, and the velvety finish is suggestive of a wine that has entered its plateau of maturity. A gorgeous effort and certainly the best Ducru-Beaucaillou until the mid-to late 1990s. Last tasted, 1/03" 95 points Robert Parker

We Love Figeac! In a great vintage, like 1982, it can be as compelling as Cheval Blanc or Ausone. We have re-tasted this beauty recently and it has truly blossomed into one of the stars of this legendary vintage.

"The fully mature 1982 offers a profoundly complex nose of cedar, smoky tobacco/cigar box, dried herbs, black currants, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine does not reveal the huge volume and roasted ripeness found in many of the top 1982s, but it does possess extraordinary complexity, finesse, and harmony. Medium-bodied, with gorgeously rich fruit, this delicate, subtle, ethereal effort is both well-defined and intense. It should continue to drink well for 7-10 years, possibly longer."95 points Robert Parker

Just like the great 1982, this is a Figeac that gets better with each tasting. Still one of the most under-valued wines of this legendary vintage.

"Figeac has become a more consistent wine over the last few years. A profound effort, the surprisingly full-bodied 2000 Figeac has an opaque purple color accompanied by a terrific bouquet of camphor, graphite, black currants, licorice, and smoked herbs. With well-balanced, powerful tannin, concentration, and pinpoint precision, finesse, and purity, this expressive as well as textured effort will drink well between 2004-2018. When Figeac hits on all cylinders, one can understand why some tasters believe it is as complex as Cheval Blanc. This is undeniably the estate's finest effort since 1996." 93 points R. Parker

This is truly a wine for the Bordeaux connoisseur and one we rarely see on the market in any meaningful quantities. We have bought 10 perfect cases (see picture) from a private collection in Scotland and what a gorgeous wine it is. Truly a great opportunity to acquire a beautiful claret to drink now and over the next 15 years.

"The 1975 Giscours is one of the outstanding successes for the vintage. Close to full maturity, it exhibits a powerful, well-balanced style. The color remains a healthy dark garnet. The wine possesses rich, concentrated fruit, full body, admirable ripeness, and an overall sense of balance despite strong tannin in the finish. This thick, rich Giscours may be the finest wine made between 1970-1994. It will continue to drink well for another 15+ years. Should readers see this wine at auction, it will probably sell for a low price. It is a classic, top-flight 1975." 92 points R. Parker

Often referred to as the "poor man's Latour", GPL 1982 does not disappoint. It is still one of the greatest wines of the vintage and with many years of pleasure ahead.

"Absolutely spectacular, the 1982 Grand Puy Lacoste must be one of the most under- rated wines of the vintage. The color remains an opaque ruby/purple and there is no doubting the level of quality after one sniff and sip. The wine reveals the classic black currant, cedary profile of a Paulliac. Mature, yet tasting young, this massive, sensationally concentrated, full bodied wine offers layers of pure cassis-like fruit that comes across as grapy because of its intensity and youthfulness. It is a thrill to drink even though the wine is still extremely young and only hints at the possibilities that exist with another 5-10 years of cellaring, The finish lasts for 40 seconds or more. Potentially, this is the greatest Grand Puy Lacoste of the last three decades. A tour de force in winemaking!Last tasted, 9/02." 95 points Robert Parker

This is another one of those haunting 1982s that keeps getting better with each tasting. Still very youthful and super-juicy. A beauty!

"This is a sumptous La Lagune that has hit full maturity but shows no signs of decline. The color is a dense, opaque dark garnet. The wine offers up smoky notes intermixed with jammy black cherries, currants, licorice and earth. The wine is thick, unctuously textured, with still some moderate tannin to shed. What else is left to be said about this legendary wine? Words simply cannot do justice. Recently sold at auction for $12,900 (a little crazy but it will look cheap in ten years time).

"I am certainly not going to argue with anyone who believes La Mission-Haut-Brion's 1989 is every bit as profound as the 1989 Haut-Brion. It is a spectacular wine, and as it ages in the bottle, it is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite La Mission-Haut-Brions, ranking alongside the 1982, 1975, 1961, 1959, and 1955. The 1989 boasts a dense, thick, purple color, followed by a sweet, roasted cassis, chocolatey-scented nose with whiffs of tobacco, tar, and minerals. The wine is extremely full-bodied, unctuously-textured, sweet, jammy, and rich. Although it is still a youthful, unformed wine, it is already delicious to drink. It should develop additional bottle bouquet by the turn of the century, after which it will drink well for 15-20 years" 100 points R. Parker

Once again, the wine of the vintage, along with La Mission Haut Brion, the 1978 Lafleur is a burly wine that has just turned the corner and has developed into a truly amazing wine. Very rare and amazing!

"More and more the 1978 Lafleur is looking like one of the two or three finest wines of the vintage, along with La Mission-Haut-Brion and Latour. This dark plum/garnet-colored wine exhibits a knock-out nose of black cherry fruit intermixed with licorice, minerals, cedar, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, with powerful tannin remaining, this highly extracted wine is atypical for the 1978 vintage. It is a weighty, broad-shouldered, muscular, virile 1978 that is just beginning to reveal secondary nuances and complexity. I have always thought this wine could develop along the lines of the 1966, and I am more convinced than ever that it is the seventies clone of that vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2020." 93 points R. Parker

Deep ruby/purple, with an exceptional richness and depth of fruit, full body, and a powerful, long finish, this wine ranks with the mammoth-sized vintages of Lafleur--1989, 1988, 1986, 1982, 1979, 1975, and 1964." 96 points R. The great 1998 Pomerols and St Emilions will always be at the top of every collector's list, and Lafleur is one of those wines that, like Petrus, will hold its value and more.

"A wine of superb concentration and dazzling intensity, the impressive 2000 Lafleur-Petrus is tasting even better out of bottle than it did from cask. A deep saturated purple-colored, full-bodied, powerful example that is clearly in a class with the 1998, it may be the finest Lafleur-Petrus made in the last 50 years. The 2000 exhibits plenty of cocoa, black cherry, plum, and currant fruit, a large framework, and impressive concentration as well as power. I always thought this was an improved "bigger" version of the 1975, and I have no reason to think otherwise based on its performance from bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025." 95 points Robert Parker

This has always been of our favorite 1982s and right now it is one of the most sublime bottles you'll ever have. We have gotten this perfect stock directly from the chateau. Absolutely pristine, like new, condition. Don't miss it!

"The best showing yet for this wine (admittedly it was from a double magnum, not a regular bottle), l'Arrosee's 1982 exhibited a deep ruby color with some lightening at the edge. Spectacular aromas of minerals, smoke, kirsch liqueur, and vanilla were intense and persistent. Velvety-textured and succulent, with low acidity, a terrific, thick, juicy fatness, gorgeous purity, fully mature flavors, and a 40+-second finish make this a sumptuous example of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: now-2010."95 points R. Parker

Recently re-released by the chateau, these cases are in impeccable, time-warp condition. The wine has finally come out of its shell and it is getting better with each tasting. This is a great opportunity to grab some perfect stock of this beautiful Las Cases.

"It is fashionable, as well as often justifiable, to criticize this slowly evolving vintage where disappointments outweigh successes, particularly in the Medoc. Perhaps some of the Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines will behave like 1955s or 1928s, but Leoville-Las Cases is unquestionably one of the stars of the vintage. The murky dark ruby/purple/garnet color is followed by a nose with a pronounced mineral/wet stone component intermingled with ripe, earthy, berry fruit (red and black currants galore). Still ferociously tannic to the point of astringency, this medium to full-bodied, concentrated wine reveals no signs of color degradation. The wine is intense and chewy, but still tough-textured. Those who like wines with considerable grip and tannic bite will enjoy this wine at present, but it remains a young wine that has not moved out of adolescence." 93 points Robert Parker

This legendary wine needs no introductions. We will still be talking about it in 30 years when it will be $2,000+ per bottle and wishing we bought lots more today. It is only going to get better...and more expensive.

"Tasted three times over a two month period, this youthful yet profoundly complex wine gets my nod as the finest Leoville-Las-Cases ever made. It reveals massive proportions yet extraordinary purity, elegance, and balance. This dense ruby/purple-colored 1982 still looks and tastes as if it were 5-8 years old. The nose offers up blazingly well-delineated, pure aromas of creme de cassis, cherry jam, minerals, and toasty new oak. This unctuously-textured, gorgeously rich, pure, super-concentrated, low acid effort concludes with a 45+ second finish. There is still tannin to shed in this unbelievably fresh, lively, full-bodied, vibrant wine. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035."100 points Robert Parker

A few perfect cases of magnums have just arrived, directly from the Chateau. A great wine to have in this size.

"This fabulous 1996 was tasted three times from bottle, and it is unquestionably the finest wine produced by this estate since their blockbuster 1990. Medium to full-bodied, with a saturated black/purple color, the nose offers notes of cedar, jammy black fruits, smoke, truffles, and subtle new oak. In the mouth, there is impressive fruit extraction, a tannic, full-bodied structure, and a classic display of power and finesse. The longer it sat in the glass, the more impressive the wine became. Backward, and massive in terms of its extract and richness, this should prove to be a sensational Leoville-Poyferre for drinking over the next three decades. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2028." 93+points R. Parker

Wow, this wine has really come on strong. A brilliant effort, it boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a gorgeously sweet nose (make that explosive nose) of blackberries and creme de cassis intermixed with minerals, smoke, and earth. The 2000 is opulent, full-bodied, and much more accessible than either of its two Leoville siblings, Leoville Las Cases or Leoville Barton, with low acidity, sweet tannin, and a layered, sumptuous finish. It continues to improve dramatically and looks to be a great success, rivaling the brilliant 1996 and 1990. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2030.95 points Robert Parker

This is truly one of the great wines of this legendary vintage. After all, Gerard Perse of Pavie owns Monbousquet so we should not expect anything less.

"From an unheralded terroir, this Monbousquet was made from extremely low yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare. Aged sur lie and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exemplifies proprietor Perse's enormous efforts. Black and blue to the rim, this wine represents the essence of this terroir. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied by extraordinary aromatics of sweet blackberries, chocolate, coffee, incense, new saddle leather, and vanilla. Remarkable intensity, lively acidity, and abundant tannin provide definition and grip. This is the most intense, muscular, and "biggest" Monbousquet made to date, and that is saying something considering the 1998 and 1999! So be prepared, it is remarkable wine. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018."95 points Robert Parker

I am not the only crazy one to think that the 1989 Montrose is as good, if not better than the 1990. At a recent Wine Spectator tasting, the 1989 was everyone's favorite. That's the reason why you can't find a damn case anywhere. Unless, of course, you call The Wine Connection. We've just bought a few pristine cases, ex-chateau so hurry!

"This is phenomenal and I continue to believe that it is superior to the 1990. Fabulous aromas of roasted fruit, blackberry, tobacco, chocolate and toasted oak. Full and velvety and very, very fresh. Powerful and fabulously structured. This will still age for years. 22,000 cases made. -- J.S. Montrose Tasting, November 2005" 97 points Wine Spectator

Along with the 1982, this tremendous wine is the natural heir to the immortal 1945. Any large format of this beauty will be hard to find and extremely valuable in the future...don't miss out!

"An enormously concentrated, massive Mouton-Rothschild, comparable in quality, but not style, to the 1982, 1959, and 1945, this impeccably made wine is still in its infancy. Interestingly, when I was in Bordeaux several years ago, I had this wine served to me blind from a magnum that had been opened and decanted 48 hours previously. Even then, it still tasted like a barrel sample! I suspect the 1986 Mouton-Rothschild requires a minimum of 15-20 more years of cellaring; it has the potential to last for 50-100 years! Given the outrageously high prices being fetched by so many of the great 1982s and 1990s (and lest I forget, the 1995 Bordeaux futures), it appears this wine might still be one of the "relative bargains" in the fine wine marketplace. I wonder how many readers will be in shape to drink it when it does finally reach full maturity?"100 points R. Parker

A fantastic Mouton that sells for much less than recent vintages. Not to be missed!

'Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff," with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030.95 points R. Parker
