For
the 2000 Bordeaux vintage,
the Moueix family (renowned
negociants and owners of Chateau
Petrus, among others) had released
a very special assortment case
of one bottle each of all the
first growths, plus La Mission
Haut Brion, Petrus Ausone (substituted
with D'Yquem in 2004) and Cheval
Blanc. It was packed in an
exotic wood case with gold
locks and each bottle also
individually packed in a wooden
box. All in all, a very special,
beautiful and rare package.
They have decided to repeat
it for the 2004 vintage and
we were able to buy ten (10)
of these gorgeous and rare
assortments. They contain the
following:
1 bottle of Chateau Margaux
1 bottle of Chateau Haut Brion
1 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild
1 bottle of Mouton Rothschild
1 bottle of Chateau Latour
1 bottle of Chateau La Mission Haut Brion
1 bottle of Chateau Petrus
1 bottle of Chateau Cheval Blanc
1 bottle of Chateau D'Yquem
This
amazing wine is much rarer
than DRC Romanee Conti and
it has been getting better
reviews. Considering that you
can buy a magnum for the price
of a third of a bottle of Romanee
Conti, I would say that it
is a very good deal. The 2002
received 97 points and the
2003 is as good, if not better.
After
having tasted this wine numerous
times we can tell you that
it would be simply foolish
not to pile it up in your cellar
at the current price level.
The wine is mindblowing!
"Unquestionably, the greatest Calon Segur since the 1982, this blend of 60% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc exhibits an opaque plum/purple
color along with gorgeous aromas of creosote intermixed with black cherries,
cassis, licorice, and stony, liquid minerals. An amazing effort, full bodied
and opulent, it possesses abundant tannin that is well concealed by the wealth
of fruit, glycerin and intensity. This large scaled wine may be tremendous from
release, but I suspect it will require patience. Given this estate's history
of closing down for considerable time after bottling, despite how precocious
the wine shows, look for it to be at its best between 2010-2040." 95+ points

This
superb 1995 was purchased recently
by us from an absolutely pristine
collection of over 500 cases
of 1995 Bordeaux. The owner
had purchased the wines on
futures and stored them at
50 degrees since arrival in
the US.
"One of the greatest wines ever produced by this estate. A wild and terrific
red. Wonderful aromas of fruit, spices and chocolate (mole sauce!). Full-bodied
and tannic, yet velvety and delightful. Masses of flavors on the finish. Best
after 2001 but hard to resist now. 7,500 cases made. (JS)" 95 points The Wine
Spectator
"A massive wine, with a cigar box, chocolatey, thick, black currant and cherry-scented
nose, this full-bodied wine is crammed with layers of fruit, extract, glycerin,
and alcohol. Spicy yet rich, with high tannin, the 1995 Canon-La-Gaffeliere will
need a minimum of 5-6 years of cellaring. The finish is long and rich, and the
tannin sweet rather than astringent. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020." 91

This
amazing wine will most certainly
turn out as great as the 1982
and 1990. You can bet on it!
"I seriously underestimated this
wine, as I have often tended to do
with Cheval Blanc. A potentially
immortal example that has gained
significant weight since it has been
bottled, this blend of 55% Cabernet
Franc and 45% Merlot has a saturated
purple color and a glorious nose
of Menthol, plums, mulberries, new
saddle leather, cocoa, and vanilla.
Remarkably fuller bodied than I ever
remember it young, with an amazingly
seamless texture and tremendous concentration
and extract, this full bodied yet
gorgeously pure and elegant wine
is impeccably balanced and certainly
one of the all-time great Cheval
Blancs. If it continues to improve
as much as it has over the last three
years since bottling, this wine will
certainly rival the 2000, 1990 and
1982." 96+ points R. Parker

You
can waste your time trying
to find ex-chateau, perfect
stock of the 1989 or buy the
1990. The wine is almost undistinguishable
from the 1989 and it is half
the price. This is a great
opportunity to acquire perfect,
ex-chateau original cases of
this legendary wine.
"More evolved than its world-famous sibling, the 1989, the 1990 continues to
gain weight and stature every time I taste it. In a blind tasting, it is not
easy to pick the difference between the younger, less evolved 1989 and the blockbuster
1990. The color is just starting to lighten a bit, but it is still saturated
purple. Notes of smoke, chocolate, espresso, mocha, and blackberry and cassis
jump from the glass of this full bodied, splendidly aromatic, and prodigiously
concentrated wine. It is compelling stuff!" 96 points R. Parker

This
amazing Clinet is as good as
the great 1990 and just a notch
behind the 1989. At this amazing
price, it would be silly to
pass it up. Arriving directly
from the Chateau. Original,
perfect wooden cases.
"Another extraordinary wine made in a backward vin de garde style, the 1995 Clinet
represents the essence of Pomerol. The blackberry, cassis liqueur-like fruit
of this wine is awesome. The color is saturated black/purple, and the wine extremely
full-bodied and powerful with layers of glycerin-imbued fruit, massive richness,
plenty of licorice, blackberry, and cassis flavors, full body, and a thick, unctuous
texture. This is a dense, impressive offering from administrator Jean-Michel
Arcaute. This wine should continue to improve for another 10-25 years. Anticipated
maturity: 2006-2025." 96 points R. Parker

Another
great 1995 from a pristine
collection. The wine is all
you would expect from a great
Cos. Balance, elegance, the
fragrance of the Merlot and
the power of the Cabernet.
A beautiful wine.
"A wine of extraordinary intensity and accessibility, the 1995 Cos d'Estournel
is a sexier, more hedonistic offering than the muscular, backward 1996. Opulent,
with forward aromatics (gobs of black fruits intermixed with toasty pain grille
scents and a boatload of spice), this terrific Cos possesses remarkable intensity,
full body, and layers of jammy fruit nicely framed by the wine's new oak. Because
of low acidity and sweet tannin, the 1995 will be difficult to resist young,
although it will age for 2-3 decades. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025." 95

You've
heard it here first: the top
wines of 2003 are Montrose,
Cos D'Estournel and Pavie.
The 2003 Cos is already a legend
in the making and the greatest
Cos ever, even surpassing the
awesome 1982. This is one to
pile up in the cellar, big
time!
"Potentially the finest Cos d’Estournel I have ever tasted,
this wine seems to have put on even more weight and gained strength even after
its formidable performance nine months ago. Eighty percent new oak was used and
the wine was aged on its lees until early summer of last year. A brilliant effort
that is super-concentrated, yet also elegant and harmonious, the wine has an
inky/purple color to the rim and a glorious nose of classic creme de cassis intermixed
with some smoke, graphite, licorice, fig, and vanilla. Full-bodied, opulently
textured, and incredibly concentrated, it has surprising freshness and definition
for a wine of such intensity and richness. Jean-Guillaume Prats told me that
the finished pH is only 3.6, which is lower than I would have suspected given
the wine’s textural richness. Moreover, the alcohol is relatively
high for a Bordeaux at 13.5% (compare that to the 13.1% of the 1990). The finish
goes on for almost a minute as this is a truly profound wine that should take
its place in the pantheon of great Bordeaux wines for many decades to come. Anticipated
maturity: 2009-2030+." 97-99 points R. Parker
